Safety In Our Schools
Read the following article, about a New Jersey school district that now has armed police officers stationed at their schools:

It would be a good idea to have cops in the school for safety and to protect the school incase if some shoots up the school.

DeleteI believe that in larger schools like new Jersey this may be a great idea and a smart way to spend there money but in a smaller school like Hurley there would be no need because we do not have the violence.

DeleteIt's a good idea to me to have armed officials and medal detectors. I think it's good to be prepared for anything. Having these things probably saved some people from school shootings already.

DeleteI think it would be a good idea to help protect students from any harm that might happen. Having police officers stand at every doorway would help with shootings or other people that might try to get into the school.

DeleteI think this is a very good idea because if a police officer stands by the entrance of the school kids won't bring anything to harm other students because the police could go through bags every morning too. Good thinking Cassi.
DeleteI agree if there were guards at the entrance if there was a fight they could stop it and they would keep them kids out of trouble and there wouldn't be a group cheering them on at the front of the school.
DeleteHaving a police officer guarding or watching the school is a good idea, but somebody could sneak a bomb or a gun or weapon in and he wouldn't know. They should start mandatory pat downs and/or security checks, then maybe it would get better.
ReplyDeleteExactly, it is a good idea, but it probably isn't the MOST effective way to stop someone from coming in and doing something to harm the people inside the school.
DeleteYes they should do pat downs, but what if someone is stubborn and doesn't want them to pat them down? Would you let them in or would you kick them out?
DeleteI think that having a security check would be a good thing, to make sure nobody has anything on them before they enter the school.
DeleteI agree, having random pat downs could make people think twice about coming into a school, if they get know they could get caught they try and enter the school with some sort of weapon.
DeleteMaybe instead of pat-downs, which can be a bit awkward if you had to do it everyday, (Not to mention time-consuming) perhaps a metal detector barrier at each entrance?

DeleteI think that it is a good idea to have cops on campus or in a school. It can give way more safety to the students. Yes it is an effective way to protect the kids because it gives the students more safety. They could lock doors and not let in people that look like they can harm or look weird. I think cops on campus is a great idea.

DeleteI don't think that the police should be stationed at the school to protect the kids. Yeah, it's probably a good thought to do, but it won't stop a shooter from coming in and messing with students/teachers. Also the second that there's a cop who's protecting the school, there will be news about it and the shooter will see that so he'll know what he has to do to get around him. I can see how they would think that having a cop protecting their schools will stop shootings or having people coming into the schools. First off, the schools should should have a tougher security system so nobody could get into the school unless pre-approved by someone already in the school.

DeleteThat is a very good point. If the shooter is going to go to the school and shoot he will cops aren't going to stop him, either way the shooter is going to get caught and in trouble and probably go to jail.

DeleteI think having cops even around the school not at the school would make the school more safe. With the kids knowing there will be cops surrounding the school it will make them not want to do anything that is wrong because there will be cops close by. Having cops close is a very good idea just in case there was a threat to the school, the cops would be close by so they could get there right away.

DeleteI agree with jdog beacuse tasers might be a better Idea, rather than guns, a student might be able to steal the officers weapon and a taser is less deadly.

DeleteI think that the police guarding the school is a good idea and would help less school shootings happen, but it's not going to stop every shooter that comes in. Or they should check people before they enter the school to make sure they have nothing on them.

DeleteI don't think guns are the answer. After all, violence doesn't solve everything! But Obviously the way things are right now aren't doing anything to stop school shootings. What my idea is, our system. We have our doors locked from the inside so no one can get in during school hours without a key or permission. Not that I personally would prefer this Idea in every school, because that would make schools feel even more like prisons, but it could solve some of the debates. Even then so, an armed guard, and locked doors? Yeah, I think prison. But what is your opinion? Do you think school would become more like a prison if an armed guard was employed? What are your thoughts on the locks?

DeleteI think that having police officers in school should carry guns beacuse they can protect kids if anything bad happens. so if bad people know there is guns in the school they will think twice before they do anything bad.

DeleteI think that there should be armed guards in schools because they would help with the school shooting problems. Some people think that there shouldn't be armed guards but it would keep us more safe. If we put a guard in the school with no gun how is he going to stop the shooter? Is he going to stop him at the door and ask him to leave? No the shooter will just kill him and than walk into the school. The only way to stop bad people with guns is to have good people with guns protecting us.

DeleteI think a cop, or even trained teachers with a concealed weapon would be effective. I think that type of protection is necessary in some schools.
